Top Local Fishing Spots: Walter Umphrey Pier

Walter Umphrey State Park Fishing Pier

3897 T.B. Ellison Parkway, Port Arthur, TX (Pleasure Island) 1-337-802-4320

This massive pier is still somewhat unknown to the general public. But to anglers, it is one of the top local fishing spots in all of Southeast Texas, especially if you love Redfish. It is packed out on most weekends, with fishermen from all around, so get there early for night fishing. It has camping facilities, decent restrooms, baitshop across the street plenty of room, very good lighting and people up all night long fishing, what else could a person want. The stories you hear will rival anything late night TV has to offer with suspense, drama, embellishment and adventure everywhere. People are friendly and eager to swap them too.Water Ump

The tides here move out until about 11pm most nights, so the fishing stays active. Redfish are a predominant here. They even get Redfish runs pretty regularly. It is a fisherman's paradise here, especially for speckled trout, redfish, and flounder.

The pier is located on Pleasure Island in Pt. Arthur. It is a place of beauty. Its has hills, bluffs, causeways, piers and great vistas overlooking Sabine Lake. Pleasure Island is where fishing fun begins in Port Arthur. The Island  is an 18.5 mile long piece of real estate, extending from the mouth of the Neches River on the northwest to the Sabine Causeway on the southeast. Its surrounded by Sabine Lake and the Sabine Neches Intracoastal Waterway.
