Boating Safety Courses and New Regulations

Texas Marine is once again sponsoring “Boater Safety Courses” for TPWD certification.
The guys from the Houston Sail and Power Squadron are teaching it. On the first Saturday of each month beginning in April and running through the end of November (except for the month of October) classes are planned for Texas Marine located at 1107 I-45S, Conroe, TX 77301.

USPS for Water TrainingIf you are under 18 you  must have the classe to get certified to ride a jet ski, drive a boat and more. The TPWD certification card is, for teens, to show law enforcement officials that the holder is legally entitled to be driving a boat. For adults you can obtain reduced boat insurance rates, rent a boat where proof of having attended an approved boating safety course is required and to boat in the waters of those states which require all boaters topowtmanual have passed an approved course. The TPWD card is valid as proof in all states, except Connecticut, and has no expiration.

Registration and payment in advance of the class is required. Deadline is the Thursday evening prior to the class. Class starts at 8:30 a.m. with enrollment and lasts until approximately 4:00 p.m. The minimum age for taking the exam for state certification is 12. There will be a break for a late lunch. You can either bring your lunch or drive to a restaurant in the area. There is a restaurant near Home Port and several near Texas Marine.

Note that there is an excellent, optional book, which may be purchased for $33 before the class or after reviewing it during or after the class.
